Hamilton who started the race in pole position was off to a great start which ended on lap 23 after losing the ability to select gears. This handed the lead to Red Bull's Sebastian Vettell who finished the race for his second victory of the 2012 season. McLaren's Jenson Button came home in second postion with Ferrari's world championship leader Fernando Alonso getting the last podium spot for third place.
Scot Paul di Resta capped off a great weekend after starting the race from sixth on the grid and finishing in fourth position in his Force India with Mercedes Gp's Nico Rosberg fith and Kimi Raikkonen sixth for LotusF1.
The race wasnt without its incidents with two safety car deployments, the first from an incident with Karthikeyan, who drifted into the barriers. Soon after the restart Michael Schumacher rammed his Mercedes into the back of Jean Eric Vergne’s Torro Rosso.
