Like the i8 Coupe, the Spyder will have a plug-in hybrid powertrain which will produce 220bhp at the rear wheels aswell as a 129bhp electric motor to drive the front wheels.
The i8 spyder will have a few technical changes to the coupe with a slightly shorter wheelbase and overall length.
The car will consist of a carbon fibre body while the chassis will be mainly aluminium.
It is claimed the i8 Spyder will return fuel economy of 94mpg and a domestic socket will charge up the batteries in 2 hours giving around a 17 mile range on electric power alone.
The i8 will hopefully make production in 2014 with a price tag of below the 6 figure mark.
